Q: What is RSS?
A: According to the creators, "RDF Site Summary (RSS) is a lightweight multipurpose extensible metadata description and syndication format. RSS is an XML application, conforms to the W3C's RDF Specification and is extensible via XML-namespace and/or RDF based modularization."

Q: Okay, thank you very much, now what is RSS really?
A: Let's just say that RSS is a computer language that computer programs and websites use to talk with each other with the purpose of sharing and exchanging websites articles. This allows website articles that a single organization posts to be automatically replicated to other websites and programs.

Q: Why would I as a website surfer care about RSS?
A: Chances are you are reading this right now within a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox. Chances are you are also reading a lot of other websites on a daily basis to catch up on news, sports, entertainment and other headlines. Instead of going to the many different websites, you could use an RSS reader, which is a program that goes to these RSS-enabled websites for you, fetches those news articles and reformats them for you so that you can read all articles from all websites in a single location. For instance, you could add the above-mentioned UVSA RSS feeds to the web-based RSS reader bloglines.com, and voila, you can read the UVSA news, events, announcements on there along with the other articles from other websites.

As another example, you can also use the Windows-based RSS program SharpReader to read these UVSA articles as well. There even exists RSS emailers or email plug-ins that read those RSS feeds and send you the articles via email, so that you can get an email whenever we upload, say, new episodes of our UVSA radio show.

Q: Why would I as a website publisher care about RSS?
A: Well, you can incorporate our RSS feeds directly into your website. If you are running some website, we welcome you to do this. This way our news articles, announcements even our banners appear on your website as we publish them without you doing any work. How to incorporate RSS feeds to your website differs depending on how your website is written, but this website offers an easy JavaScript way.

Q: Who else use RSS?
A: RSS is an industry standard. A lot of other websites such as Yahoo News, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Amazon.com offer RSS feeds, most blogs have RSS feeds, and even Google announced that you can expose your Gmail as RSS feeds in the near future.

Q: Where can I find more about RSS?
A: To download some RSS readers, check out this page. To find other RSS feeds, check out Syndic8.com.

Q: This is neat, how can I post articles to your website?
A: If you have news articles or want to promote community events that relate to the Vietnamese youth, send them our way, and we'll post them at our discretion.
